Armstrong strongly believes that the more that people get involved in kids' lives, the better the world will be. And he doesn't just talk about doing something. His calendar is filled with speaking engagements at schools, churches and libraries throughout the U.S., where he motivates young people with the story of his own success, and how they too can succeed if they stay in school and work towards their goals. Armstrong has been recognized by Nestle's "Men of Courage" program for his community involvement, and he also appears with Joe, Marcy and Wynton Marsalis in a Scholastic mentoring video and book that are used in classrooms to help motivate young people.
Armstrong, his wife Sherry and their baby daughter live near
Philadelphia. Although creating Jump Start keeps Armstrong busy,
in his leisure time he enjoys TV, movies, stand-up comedy and sharing his drawings with
kids.
