In 1987, she returned to New York to work at AP’s World Desk, joining the
pipeline of hopefuls for a foreign assignment. Because the projected wait
would’ve been five years, Persia accepted a position with Radio Free Europe/Radio
Liberty, Inc., (RFE) which was then based in Munich. Persia arrived in Munich in
1988, virtually on the eve of history-making changes in the former East bloc:
She was on hand for the collapse of the Berlin Wall. RFE shut its Munich
operation in the mid 1990s and moved to Prague. Persia remained in Munich and
decided to finally do what she’d always wanted to do: write novels.
In 1998, she began HARLEM REDUX. Set against the backdrop of the glittering
1920s' Harlem Renaissance, it tells the story of a man in self-imposed internal
exile. The story reflected the expatriate’s longing for home.
Work on HARLEM REDUX was laid aside in late 1999, when she was diagnosed with
breast cancer. After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she
completed her Harlem Renaissance novel. BET.com listed "Harlem Redux" as among
the Best Fiction for 2002, and the Go On Girl! Book Club named Walker
Author of the Year 2003.
In 2003, Persia and her family returned to the United States, where she's
experiencing an intense case of writer's block.

Persia Walker's “Such a Lucky, Pretty Girl,” and a new contribution by
New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly are among 19 original stories
about riveting showdowns between cops and criminals.
From Hawaii at the turn of the twentieth century to the post-Civil War frontier,
from smoggy Los Angeles to the woods of Idaho, these gripping stories trace the
perils and occasional triumphs of lawmen and -women who put themselves in harm's
way to face down the bad guys. Some of them even walk the edge of becoming bad
guys themselves.
In T. Jefferson Parker's "Skinhead Central," an ex-cop and his wife find
unexpected menace in the idyllic setting they have chosen for their retirement.
In Alafair Burke's "Winning," a female officer who is attacked in the line of
duty must protect her own husband from his worst impulses. In Edward D. Hoch's
"Friday Night Luck," a wanna-be cop blows his chance at a spot on the force—and
breaks his case. In Michael Connelly's "Father's Day," Harry Bosch faces one of
his most emotionally trying cases, investigating a young boy's death.
The magnificent and never-before-published Connelly story is alone worth the
price of admission, and-combined with 18 unexpected tales from crime's modern
masters-makes this an unmissable collection.
